Epson acquires K-Sun Corp

Japan’s Seiko Epson Corp. has acquired portable and desktop electronic label printers provider K-Sun Corp. in line with its aim to expand its presence in the industrial labeling market in countries where it operates, including in the Philippines.

According to Epson, the acquisition would allow it to get greater access to labeling customers as well as better serve industrial clients through an expanded line of label printing solutions.

“We are delighted to take our partnership with K-Sun to the next stage. The acquisition will not only give us access to K-Sun’s expertise in industrial label printing, but will help boost the Epson brand and increase exposure of Epson’s label printers in this important strategic market,” Junichi Watanabe, director and chief operating officer of visual products operations division at Epson said.

US-based K-Sun has more than three decades of experience in the industrial identifications solutions market with its products such as portable and desktop electronic label printers used in laboratories, hospitals, manufacturing, safety identification, law enforcement, engineering, information technology, electrical, construction, energy, and transport as well as warehouse facilities.

The firm has been in a strategic partnership with Epson since 1994 through the latter’s supply of label printers.

“Now as a member of Epson’s prestigious group of companies, we are very excited for our future and the new products and supplies that we can offer our customers and the expanded opportunities for our employees,” KSun founder and president Michael Kasun said.

Beginning this month, K-Sun would sell Epson-branded lineup of LabelWorks label printers for industrial applications in North America, while Epson America would continue to focus on promoting LabelWorks label printers to the consumer and office markets.

Expansion of the product line offerings is expected to follow.

In the Philippines, the acquisition is expected to allow Epson to enhance its value proposition to customers.

“Through this acquisition, we strengthen our goal of providing high precision, world-class products to Filipinos to help them grow the return of their investments,” Christopher Sanchez, head of sales division at Epson Philippines said.

The Epson Group led by Seiko Epson Corp. has more than 72,000 employees in 94 companies around the world.
