Cabrera feted as top AAP 2014 motorsports achiever
Seaoil karter Gabriel Tayao Cabrera got another prestigious recognition as one of the country’s top motorsports achievers for 2014 in the 20th Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) Awards Night recently at the World Trade Center in Pasay.
The AAP, the local motorsports governing body affiliated with the world motorsports sanctioning organization CIK-FIA, was the third sports body after the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) and the Golden Wheel Awards to acknowledge Cabrera’s impressive racing achievements that created a huge impact in Philippine motorsports last year through the support of DC, Point Zero Project, Media Magic and Gold’s Gym.
The AAP handed him two trophies for his feats as the Junior Karter of the Year in the annual Petron Karting and as the junior champion of the 2014 Asian Karting Open Championships.
The 15-year-old Makati Hope Christian School student considered the AAP awards as the ultimate distinction of his accomplishments, citing the strict criteria followed by the governing national motorsports body in choosing the top drivers to be feted on its Awards Night.
“For me, the AAP awards is the ultimate yardstick in determining the crème de la crème of Philippine Motorsports, and I’m proud to be in AAP’s top drivers list for the past three years. And I’m grateful of the all-out support of my mom Karen and grandmother Ahma Tayao who were there with me in every race,” said Cabrera.
In the Petron National Karting Series, Cabrera scored another first in karting history as the only junior driver to stamp a perfect record by topping time trials to finals in the entire seven-leg ROK series, upstaging the senior karters.
His triumph as last year’s Asian Karting junior champion was even more significant as Cabrera ended the country’s seven-year title drought in the Asian Karting Open Championships.
After the Batangas race, Cabrera will be racing for Nizra Motorsports, donning the colors of TonyKart in the Asia Max Challenge in Malaysia where he will be joined by last year’s Clubman Karter Jacob Ang on the elite team..
Owned by the Malaysian conglomerate Nizra Group, Nizra Motorsports is an international motorsports company with connections with the world’s reputable motorsports partners.
