Letran 2020 affair Countdown held

-

As part of the preparation for the highly anticipated quadricentennial, former students revisited their alma mater for the Collegiate Alumni Countdown to 2020 – A Post Valentine Affair which was held at the Salon de Actos last Feb. 27.

The formal affair paved the way for the launching of the Letran Awards and the unveiling of a project to get students to learn from successful alumni of Letran.

The “400 Men and Women” initiative seeks to get alumni who are successful in their field of endeavor and pillars in their industry to hold a series of seminars in Letran from 2015 to 2020. They will be tasked to share the values and discipline they have learned in the Colegio. Alumni will be assigned to each program and then they would be asked to zero in on current trends and challenges in the industry.

Each of the 400 men and women will be recognized with a dedicated medallion. It is envisioned that these chosen 400 will be honored at the Letran 400 gala in 2020.

The event, which included a dinner, a mini-concert by the Letran Templar Singing Ambassadors and the Estribillos de los Escolares, and a fashion show featuring alumnus Pablo Cabahug, was also meant to gather funds for the Letran Scholarship Program.

As of now, there are 108 program scholars that enjoy the benefit of full tuition, accommodation, meals, books, uniform, and laundry allowance.

Rev. Fr. Boyd Sulpico, OP, alumni chaplain and vice president for financial affairs, gave the opening remarks.

Letran Alumni Association ( LAA) directors Ronnie del Rosario and Francis Liongson were among those who attended, along with Letran Alumni Foundation president Freddie Ortiz and Letran Board of Trustees member, Jose Maria Aligada. Present as well was Mary Jane Ortega, the former mayor of San Fernando, La Union and part of Batch ’59. Also in attendance were Elizabeth Salonga Fernando (BSC Accountancy ’75) and Rosalie Montemayor Cruz (BSC Accountancy ’79), the first woman LAA president. The event gathered P225,000. After dinner, everyone was treated to front row seats to the fashion show that displayed the talent of Pablo Cabahug, who graduated with a degree in Communication Arts in 2001.
