Binays to sue Trillanes for contempt

- With Helen Flores, Non Alquitran

Makati Rep. Abigail Binay said yesterday they would file a contempt case against Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV for saying that they paid justices of the Court of Appeals (CA) for ruling in favor of her brother, Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay.

In a statement released by the officer of her father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, the congresswoman did not say when they would file the case.

She said Trillanes should substantiate his accusation.

“He always claims to have something explosive against my father and my family, but it always turns out to be dud,” she said.

The Binays also expect senators to again raise the issue of his father’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth and income tax returns.

But she said records with the Bureau of Internal Revenue could prove that deposits in the bank accounts of her father came from legitimate sources.

She added that the P254million bank deposits of the Vice President from 2007 to 2014 reported by the Anti- Money Laundering Council could be fully accounted for.

Meanwhile, the police offi deployed at the Makati City Hall will remain in their posts until the standoff between Mayor Binay and Vice Mayor Romulo Peña is resolved, an official said yesterday.

National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Carmelo Valmoria said he had ordered the policemen not to engage in partisan politics.

“Their task is to prevent any untoward incident between the supporters of Binay and Peña,” Valmoria said.

Binay and Peña are locked in a battle as to who is the legal mayor of the city.

Earlier, Binay secured a writ of preliminary injunction from the CA indefinitely holding his six-month suspension order by the ombudsman.

Peña, however, insisted that he is the legal mayor unless ordered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to sit as vice mayor.

Valmoria said the police contingent, headed by Southern Police District deputy director for administration Senior Superintendent Elmer Jamias, would not leave their post without an order from the DILG. –
