Unbeaten Lhuillier battles Tanduay

-

Games Monday (San Juan Arena) 1 p.m. – Cagayan Valley vs Jumbo Plastic 3 p.m. – Cebuana Lhuillier vs Tanduay Light

Cebuana Lhuillier seeks to extend its win run as it clashes with a struggling Tanduay Light side today in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Gems swept their first three games but coach Boycie Zamar continued to downplay his team’s strength, saying “the team stills lacks character” while stressing the need to play more consistent.

They hope to show that as they tackle the Rhum Masters in the 3 p.m. match, looking for a follow-up to their romps over Café France, MP Hotel and Kera Mix.

Cebuana led by as many as 34 points against Kera Mix but settled for a 95-88 victory as they lost their rhythm in the second half and lacked the killer’s instinct.

“We still have a lot of room for improvement. If we can play consistently and win convincingly, I might be convinced that we’re the team to beat,” said Zamar.

Simon Enciso scored 24 points on 7 of 9 shooting from 3-point range and Mo Tautuaa tallied 24 and 10 rebounds against Kera Mix.

Tanduay Light opened its campaign with a 7961 rout over Jumbo Plastic but dropped its next two games with sputtering finishes. Whether they can avoid a third straight loss will be a challenge for the Rhum Masters.

Meanwhile, second running Jumbo Plastic seeks a third straight win after an opening game loss as they square off with Cagayan Valley. The Rising Suns have lost their last two games to drop into a tie with the Rhum Masters.
