DMCI set to start LRT-2 extension to Cainta, Rizal

DM Consunji Inc. is set to start the constructi­on of the P2.27-billion viaduct for the extension of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) all the way to Masinag in Cainta, Rizal after getting the green light from the government.

Hernando Cabrera, spokespers­on of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), said in an interview that the Department of Transporta­tion and Communicat­ions (DOTC) and LRTA have issued the Notice to Proceed to DMCI late last March. “They will start soon,” Cabrera said. The project covers the constructi­on of elevated guideway is the first package for the P9.75-billion East (Masinag) Extention project of LRT-2.

The viaduct covers the 3.934 kilometers eastward extension of LRT-2 from the existing Santolan station along Marcos Highway, in Pasig City all the way to Sumulong Highway at Masinag, Cainta, Rizal.

According to Cabrera, the completion of works is required within 540 calendar days.

The LRT-2 Extension project is expected to further increase the current 200,000 daily passenger volume of the mass transit system that traverses the cities of Manila, San Juan, Quezon City, Marikina, and Pasig.

The DOTC has prequalifi­ed all the four groups that submitted qualificat­ion documents last Jan. 27.

The O& M contract would be valid for 10 years wherein the winner would operate and maintain the existing 13.8 kilometer LRT-2 from C. M. Recto Ave. in Avenida, Manila to Santolan in Pasig City with 11 stations as well as the proposed P9.7 billion extension project covering an additional two stations all the way to Masinag in Antipolo City.

The winner would also operate and maintain other future extension of the LRT- 2 system including the proposed extension to Port Area in Manila.
