Attacks vs VP mere rehash, says Binay camp

- By HELEN FLORES With Christina Mendez

Globe Asiatique president Delfin Lee’s allegations during the Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee hearing were not surprising as far as the camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay is concerned.

“The lawyer for Delfin Lee was allowed to read the statement of the detained property developer, an accommodation not accorded to one of the lawyers of Vice President Jejomar Binay, JV Bautista, who was thrown out of the Senate floor. This only validates our position that this is a one-sided forum solely for the detractors of the Vice President,” Binay’s spokesman for political affairs lawyer Rico Quicho said.

Quicho said Lee’s statement was a rehash and reiteration of the previous statements of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.

“We need not state the obvious that the two are now working hand in hand to demolish the gains of Pag-IBIG Fund under the leadership of Vice President Binay. The allegations against the judge handling Mr. Lee’s case must be dealt with by the court concerned,” he said.

Quicho said that it is evident that Lee is looking for a friendly forum where he could defend himself against the crime he committed against Pag-IBIG members and get back at Binay, who was instrumental in curbing anomalies in the housing sector.

“Contrary to Mr. Lee’s claims, it was the Vice President who advised lawyers not to include former Vice President De Castro because there was no evidence against him. This belated statement of Mr. Lee is clearly meant to sow intrigue between the Vice President and Mr. De Castro. It is disappointing that Mr. Lee has taken cue from Sen. (Antonio) Trillanes that the Senate could be a venue to tarnish the reputation of people even without proof of the same,” Quicho said.

Lawyering for Lee

United Nationalist Alliance interim president and Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco lashed out at Trillanes for lawyering for Lee.

“If you listen to Trillanes, it appears that Delfin Lee is a saint. This is the person who destroyed the lives of thousands of ordinary workers. He should pity them instead of Delfin Lee,” Tiangco said.

Tiangco said Trillanes is playing multiple roles to further his vice presidential ambition.

“Now he is a prosecutor, judge and executioner and those he has maligned cannot defend themselves because he will bully them into silence,” he said.

The UNA stalwart added that Trillanes is after the public’s perception of the Vice President and not to look for the truth in the issues thrown against the Vice President.

“This is not about evidence. This is all about perception and painting a negative picture of VP Binay through lies and innuendoes,” he said. –
