Dementia winner at St. Tropez (France) Filmfest
Dementia, the directorial debut of Perci Intalan (photo), won Best Foreign Language Film with its lead star Nora Aunor as Best Lead Actress in a Foreign Language Film and Emilio Garcia Best Supporting Actor in a Foreign Language Film for Magkakabaung (directed Jason Paul Laxamana) at the Third St. Tropez International Film Festival. The redcarpet awards ceremony was held Saturday evening, May 16, in Hotel Westminster in Nice, France.
Perci received the trophy for Nora who is attending the red-carpet gala world premiere of Taklub (by Brillante Mendoza) on Tuesday, May 19, which is in competition at the Un
Certain Regard section of the 68th Cannes International Film Festival, also in France.
STAR contributor Ferdinand Lapuz (co-producer of Magkakabaung with Dennis Evangelista, Romnick Sarmienta and Romeo Lindain) received the trophy for Emilio who won for his role as Mr. Canda, an entrepreneur peddling cadavers to medical students.
Dementia, a psychological horror/ drama film released in September last year, tells the story of Mara Fabre (Nora) who’s suffering from early-onset dementia.
The story is reportedly inspired by Perci’s experience with his mother who is suffering from Alzheimer’s.
The St. Tropez International Film Festival held in the South of France is a global industry event that reaches out to filmmakers worldwide celebrating the best and most popular independent and studio films.
Dementia had its European premiere when it competed in the 35th Fantasporto International Film Festival in Portugal last March.
