Cops receive mid-year bonus

- By CECILLE SUERTE FELIPE

LEGAZPI CITY – Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) chairman Ireneo Maliksi has admitted that the revenue-generating agency is running out of funds as it continues with its mandate to provide financial assistance to indigent Filipinos.

Aside from providing financial help to individual recipients, Maliksi cited at least 13 laws that mandates the PCSO to provide mandatory contribution to different government agencies. Just last week, PCSO released P100 million to the Commission on Higher Education as its mandatory contribution to CHED, which is among the institutions and agencies partly funded by PCSO.

Active duty uniformed and non-uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have received their mid-year bonuses.

However, the bonus of personnel with pending administrative and criminal cases has been deferred as per administrative policy, according to PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Bartolome Tobias.

The release of the bonuses is consistent with a Malacañang announcement that mid-year bonuses of government workers would be out this week, he added.

The PNP has released P1.9 billion for the midyear bonus of the 155,000 active duty uniformed and non-uniformed personnel.

The Directorate for Comptrollership released P1,933,664,893.50 through the Finance Service and subsequently credited to the individual ATM payroll accounts of active duty uniformed and nonuniformed personnel.

PNP members not yet enrolled in the ATM payroll system will receive checks thru the Regional Finance Service Offices (RFSO), according to Chief Superintendent Roberto Aliggayu, Finance Service director.

The mid-year bonus represents 50 percent of the 13th month pay and other cash benefits mandated by law for all government workers, he added.

By December 2015, the PNP will release the second tranche of the 13th month pay for this year.
