Eat, sleep, #LaBoracay, repeat

- By David Milan

It was around seven years ago when I first experienced Labor Day weekend in Boracay. Back then, Holy Week was when crowds on the island reached their peak. Labor Day weekend in Boracay was considered a “peaceful” alternative! After that year though, things shifted. The crowd slowly moved their long weekend vacations to May, and when Instagram was invented, Labor Day weekend sealed its title as the Philippines’ version of spring break. I remember the year when people started using hashtags — everyone was confused as to which one was more approps to use — #LaBora or #LaBoracay?

Fast forward to 2015, and #LaBoracay is now at its peak, drawing thousands of people including students, families, young and old professionals, celebrities, models, and athletes alike. “#LaBoracay is really something else,” DJ Mars Miranda once told me. In his career of more than a decade, Miranda has played the most memorable parties the island has ever seen. He was then starting as a DJ when the party scene of Boracay was still up and coming. These days, Mars Miranda is now a household name that he even has his own billboard in Boracay as an ambassador for Globe Tattoo.

From sunrise to sundown, Boracay is the island that never sleeps. It’s where happy hour is every hour. People go to #LaBoracay to party (and to parade the six-pack abs that you’ve been working on for the rest of the year). Beach activities during the day, order your mojitos by sunset, quick dinner to sober up, then back to partying at night till sunrise, repeat every day for the rest of the week — that is the #LaBoracay routine.

The most epic parties in Boracay have been thrown by Globe Telecom. Year after year, they fly in international DJs from all over the globe for their exclusive parties. This year, GCash Mastercard and Globe Charge took the spotlight as the perfect partner of all # LaBoracay revelers. Imagine not having to bring cash with you wherever you go in the island (a constant problem of mine as I never want to carry anything except my phone when hitting the beach). With over 200 partner merchants powered with Globe Charge all over Boracay, GCash customers can have a hassle-free experience when they purchase items from shops, dine and drink in restaurants or even book hotels around the island. They can even get discounts when they use their GCash MasterCard.

On this spread, you’ll see what happened when Globe brought DJ Sander van Doorn and Knife Party to play two parties that ruled the Labor Day weekend, with the Boracay party crowd who danced and fist- bumped the night away.

As another #LaBoracay has concluded, we celebrate yet another successful summer escapade for 2015. See you next year?
