Next-generation artists make their parents proud
The Next Attraction concert starring Karylle, Isabella, Robin Nievera and Paolo Valenciano, staged at Music Museum last July 4 opened with all four singing All You Need Is
Love. Then, Isabella sang Don’t Rain On
My Parade dedicated to her mom, Kuh Ledesma, who gave her a standing ovation. That’s one proud mama.
It was Karylle’s turn to make her mom Zsa Zsa Padilla proud with Can’t Shut
Up, a song which she wrote for her husband Yael Yuzon who was too shy to join Karylle onstage and dance, opting to watch from his seat.
Paolo, director, and Robin, musical director, rendered a rock rendition of the Beatles’ I Want
You. Paolo took after his dad Gary Valenciano and Robin, his parents Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez (who were also in the audience). Paolo sounded a lot like his dad when he did a duet of
Could We with Karylle, the song popularized by their parents.
The guest performers were just as good. Jayda Avanzado, daughter of Dingdong Avanzado and Jessa Zaragoza, proved that talent runs in the family by effortlessly hitting the high notes of Katy Perry’s song Roar; and so did Homer Flores’ daughter Hannah in a duet of Love Me Like You Do with Paolo.
The concert was like a family reunion. Most anticipated part of the show was the children’s tribute to their parents, singing songs by their parents. Karylle went down the stage and approached her mom (while Karylle’s dad, Dr. Modesto Tatlonghari, watched nearby). Also present was Paolo’s sister Kiana and his wife Sam.
Like his dad, Robin cracked jokes… very Martin Nievera who is noted not only for regaling the audience with his songs but also keeping them in stitches with his sense of humor.
The concert ended on a touching note. The children requested their parents to join them onstage and sing with them.
Yes, indeed, the family that sings together sticks to one another …together!
(Note: Next Attraction will have a repeat also at the Music Museum on Aug. 14 and 15.)
