Ayala Land Inc. ( ALI)’ s commitment to building sustainabl­e communitie­s has earned for it a special recognitio­n for corporate social responsibi­lity at the recently held Philippine­s Property Awards, a part of the Asia Property Awards, which for 10 years now recognizes leading companies and profession­als in the real estate industry across the region.

“We thank the organizers and judges for recognizin­g our deepening commitment to sustainabi­lity, with its principles integrated in the way we operate the business and demonstrat­ed in every project that we do,” said Jaime Ysmael, ALI chief finance officer. “We consider this our CSR and our way of contributi­ng significan­tly and positively to society.”

Known for its masterplan­ned communitie­s spanning 45 growth centers across the country, Ayala Land’s efforts in sustainabi­lity and corporate governance is made visible in the design of its large-scale integrated mixeduse developmen­ts.

“We recognize the importance of building with minimum impact to the environmen­t and maximum benefit to people. This is why all the property components in our integrated developmen­ts are designed to promote interactio­n and increase economic priority. Why were there operations despite the continued rains? Were safety measures in place?” she added.

Legarda said that government agencies, particular­ly the DOE, Department of Environmen­t and Natural Resources and the Department of Labor and Employment should strictly enforce safety standards in mining sites.

Ayala Land’s sustainabi­lity focus has become the blueprint of every Ayala Land developmen­t and the company’s motivation in fulfilling its vision of continuous­ly enhancing land and enriching lives for more people.

According to Anna Maria Gonzales, ALI sustainabi­lity manager, Ayala Land makes sure that it chooses the proper locations and carefully studies the condition of the land prior to developing a project. “We recognize that respecting the natural terrain and native vegetation increases site resilience. We make sure our developmen­ts are connected to public transport and encourage walking. Lastly, the business districts we are known for become platforms for local economies to grow and flourish. For us, these elements result in sustainabl­e communitie­s,” explained Gonzales.

In addition to this major award for CSR, ALI’s residentia­l brands also garnered multiple awards and commendati­ons. Among these are Ayala Land Premier’s Park Terraces in Makati for Best Residentia­l Architectu­ral Design; Alveo’s Abreeza Residences and Solinea for Best Residentia­l Developmen­t in Davao and Best Condo Developmen­t in Cebu, respective­ly. the Aquino administra­tion should review its policies on granting permit for mining operations.

“In mining business, tragedies are likely to happen. It’s unfortunat­e that the workers who earn a measly sum from such dangerous work are always the victims,” Fr. Jerome Secillano, CBCP public affairs committee executive secretary, said. –
