The Philippine Star

State of the art

- by LUIS ESPIRITU, JR.

Art is an inspiration. For many great minds of fashion, art is a source of thei r outstanding creations.

In the Philippines, the masters of fashion and other design geniuses have created spectacular masterpieces where a seamless fusion showcases the magnificence of a visual form. From the most literal to abstract execution, imaginative brilliance echoes design interpretations from color palette to silhouettes and detail. The reality about the current influence of today’s everyday fashion is the high commercial and mainstream viability — this means it has transcended from being a museum, exhibit or collector’s piece into ready-to-wear art.

After making the logo of the Philippine map an iconic symbol of style, visionary designer Rhett Eala takes into the forefront of local scene his progressive point of view of art in fashion. Since two years ago, his seamless strokes of genius have successfully created modern interpretations on the art of wear.

This year, Eala’s consistent artistic movement has become a successive style profusion seen at the Manila Fashion Festival, Tressemmé Gala, Style Origins Mensweek and Salon series. The impressive collections are no highbrow statements, nor an idea of defining style irreverence or even a realization of a fantasy but a noteworthy showcase of beautifully made clothes from runway to reality. The extensive range of modern wear for both men and women has a distinctive look with a sense of realism. From the streets to the red carpet, the aspirational aspect of art has transcended into everyday dressing.

Set against the breathtaking beauty of Lagen in El Nido, Palawan where nature’s picturesque art forms are in abundance, Eala’s creations seamlessly bask under the glorious sunshine, pristine white beaches, centuries-old rock formations and in the heart of nature. The current state in the art of fashion is moving back towards the masterful hands that create contemporary pieces and paint our wardrobes in living color. The modernity of the times has taken art forward as it relevantly transcends into our day-to-day lives.
