Valleys don’t last forever

- By GINA LOPEZ

Icontinually feel younger and healthier despite the advance of years. One prime reason is spirituality. In addition to giving me a positive outlook on life, my meditation gives me the energetic tools to “keep afloat” despite seeming pandemonium around me, often from several angles at once. Sigh…

Life is a “game.” To take it all too seriously means allowing life’s travails to drag you down. We “play the game” with our principles intact, and use our reflections on the “game” to become better people — to become mindful of not taking the very unproductive stance of being too hard on oneself; instead being honest, learning and moving forward. Physical health is critical in this process. It’s so much easier to be happy, to be positive, to meditate, to do anything if one is physically healthy. This path of physical well-being is a continually evolving one — as there are more and more products that promise well-being, more techniques and more knowledge available to revolutionize and help us “go outside the box.” It’s quite exciting.

I am currently using a machine called Cyber Body Slimmer, which I got when I met the inventor, Dr. Fuji, a Japanese man who is more than 80 years old but possesses an amazing amount of energy. He told me his machine could address osteoporosis in three months. I tried it in Los Angeles and I liked it. It took two months to get to me and I have been on it for two weeks now. It’s like the Power Plate but many times more intense. One just stands on it and can do different poses so that different parts of the skeletal muscle vibrate. I don’t just feel the bones vibrating; I feel my muscles strengthening. In fact, one of its claims is fat reduction. We’ll see after three months. I will let you know. But I already feel stronger and I felt stronger after the first try.

I still have the oils — and I still feel like a quack doctor when I suggest what oils to take to address everyday ailments. A month ago, the legal officer in the office, who has diabetes, texted me and said her blood sugar was normal. After three months, wow! It was a mix of coriander, basil and On Guard oils that she’s taken regularly. Now I am discovering ways to address mental imbalance since I have friends who have bipolar disorder. As I say repeatedly: if it works, it works. I was sitting with a friend over dinner. She recently found out she was bipolar and had been trying many modalities. The most important objective was she needed to sleep! Her racing mind tended to misconstrue reality… and this was making life hellish for people around her. She made one remark which I would like to share. “Gina, you know my experience is these pharmaceuticals may cure, but they make you dependent on them. The natural approach allows the body to discover its strength, so it can eventually build its own muscle.” So to sleep she takes gaba — a natural element which is sourced from flowers and has a sedative effect. It’s working!

During the day she has been inhaling frankincense, which calms her.

She is also keeping away from white sugar, white rice and any food that produces sugar.

She has decided to minimize her contact with “technology” — the phone, the computer and movies — because she finds that her mind is already so stimulated, the last thing she needs is more stimulation.

Again I say: if it works, it works. She is calmer, although she does get depressed sometimes.

Two days ago I had lunch with Jetro Rafael, the owner of a restaurant in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City called Van Gogh is Bipolar. The restaurant is so innovative it was featured on BBC and CNN. Unfortunately, Jetro is leaving the country today and will be back in three months. When he comes back, I will focus on the issue of mental health more because he has been able to get himself stable without any pharmaceuticals at all. Just selfawareness and diet! He discovered that most medicines produce chemicals that actually some foods produce. By taking a diet carefully crafted, one can actually bring on stability in the mental sphere.

This way he is still an active artist, a restaurateur and a consultant. He lives a very productive life.

His brother is also bipolar and got into drugs, became violent, and now he is okay! Valleys don’t last forever. The strength we need to climb out of them builds muscle and inspires.

On July 25 I will be sharing my latest discoveries in Luna Gardens of Rockwell from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Plus if you are looking for undiscovered places to go to in this country of 7,000 islands I will be sharing that, too. I have been doing a lot of traveling and the magnificence of this country continues to awe me. The cost is P300 and this includes a healthy snack and an experience of the oils. Text your name and number to Jen Santos at 0917-5136822 to make reservations. I get a big kick out of “sharing.” It makes me really happy. I am hoping to see you there.
