Everybody uses personal-care and household cleaning products daily, but not all are aware of the benefits of honest, natural ingredients. There is a dearth in information on the health hazards of many products in the market, which contain levels of toxic

According to Dr. Samuel Epstein, as quoted from Senate Bill No. 2060 sponsored by Sen. Miriam Santiago, government scientists have “identified a group of toxic chemicals known as phthalates in urine of adults… resulting from inhalation and skin exposure to volatile parent ingredients used extensively as solvents and plasticizers in personal-care and cosmetic products.” Phthalates and other toxins present in personal-care and household-cleaning products may contain one or more of the following attributes: neurotoxins, carcinogens, teratogens, endocrine disrupters and mutagens.

Proudly Philippine-made, Messy Bessy Cleaners is a line of products using earthfriendly, all-natural, and biodegradable ingredients and materials. The company aims to inform consumers about toxic chemicals hidden inside their homes. There are so many chemical products commercially available today, and studies have shown that indoors are actually more polluted than outdoors. Indoor air pollution is actually considered one of the top environmental risks to public health.

All Messy Bessy products are made with the safest ingredients, including sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), a food-safe, biodegradable and deodorizing cleaner; distilled white vinegar, a disinfecting, deodorizing and anti-fungal natural acid; and essential oils for worry-free fragrance.

Established in 2007, Messy Bessy is the brainchild of founder Krie Reyes-Lopez. It was inspired by Lopez’ visit to the Delancey Street Foundation in San Francisco, where she learned about rehabilitating the disadvantaged by way of commercial enterprises.

Lopez came home to the Philippines with renewed motivation and conviction to help Manila’s disenfranchised young adults. Soon after, HOUSE ( Helping OUrselves through Sustainable Enterprises) was born.

Messy Bessy Cleaners, Inc. is the first enterprise of Project HOUSE with the primary goal of employing, training and educating formerly abused and trafficked young adults, most of whom have dropped out of school due to poverty.

Over the years, all of Messy Bessy’s profits have been channeled back into the rehabilitation program. The company has since employed more than 60 formerly disadvantaged young adults. Today, it sustains the in-house HOUSE classroom, which offers diploma programs for elementary and high school; and recently partnered with the Manila Business College for a scholarship program for its beneficiaries.

The company’s departments serve both as business units and training centers for its members, answering the call for a greener lifestyle and a cleaner environment while giving marginalized young adults the building blocks for a productive and positive life.
