Minister Wang Yi recently met with envoys of 10 ASEAN countries in China. Both parties exchanged views on China- ASEAN relations.

Wang Yi expressed that China and the ASEAN countries are friendly neighbors linked by rivers and mountains, as well as a common destiny — a community sharing the biggest common interest of accelerating development, the common demand of maintaining stability, and the common aspiration of deepening cooperation. Wang Yi stated that the ASEAN is the priority in China’s peripheral diplomacy. By the end of this year, the ASEAN community will be established, which will be the first subregional community in Asia and of milestone significance. China will continue to firmly support the establishment of the ASEAN community and the predominant role of the ASEAN in East Asian cooperation.

Wang Yi stated that next year is the 25th anniversary of ChinaASEAN dialogue relations, which will provide new development opportunities. China is willing to maintain close communication and strengthen planning and design with the ASEAN to ensure relevant and successful commemorative events. This will also help implement the “2+ 7 Cooperation Framework,” actively expand production capacity cooperation, boost connectivity and deepen maritime cooperation so as to provide new impetus for China- ASEAN relations, and boost the establishment of a closer ChinaASEAN community with a common destiny.

Envoys of ASEAN countries in China spoke highly of the fruitful results of ASEAN-China cooperation and appreciated China’s long-standing pursuit of friendly and cooperative policies in the ASEAN community. They stated that the ASEAN is willing to deepen strategic partnership with China, enhance all- around practical cooperation, jointly cope with global economic risks and challenges, and maintain a favorable momentum of regional development.
