CRISTINO L. NAGUIAT, JR.
Chairman and CEO Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR)
Many Filipinos hit the jackpot when Cristino L. Naguiat, Jr. was instated as head of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation ( PAGCOR), the government-owned and controlled corporation that regulates the Philippine gaming industry.
A longtime official in PAGCOR, Naguiat has enhanced the image and maximized the assets of his organization by making corporate social responsibility one of its priorities.
Under his strong leadership, PAGCOR became one of the highest earners among the country’s government-owned and controlled corporations — remitting not less than P1-billion cash dividends every year. At the same time, it also began to gain a reputation for its life-changing and high-impact programs for the benefit of the youth, the education sector, and marginalized communities.
Naguiat has been hands-on in many initiatives designed to provide longterm and far-reaching benefits to their target beneficiaries. The “Matuwid na
Daan sa Silid-Aralan” project and “Pinoy Bayanihan” project paved the way for the construction and donation of thousands of classrooms and armchairs for public schools nationwide. They also launched a national feeding program for malnourished public school students, and provided the initial funding for the Kasibulan Grassroots Football Project.
What could be the most creative way PAGCOR extended help to Filipinos was when they used parts of old slot machines to create functional school desks.
After making PAGCOR go beyond earning revenues for the country, and steering it towards taking a more active part in nation-building, Naguiat proves himself a winner in the game of leadership. And now, his winning ways has led him to another prize, this time in the form of a CEO EXCEL Award.
