PHILIPPINE AVIATION SUMMIT
Theme: “Enhancing Awareness, Forging Synergies”
In view of the robust growth projections of civil aviation in the Asia Pacific region by 2020 and in recognition of the need to sustain the momentum of achievement of the Philippine civil aviation sector, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is hosting the first-ever Philippine Aviation Summit on September 24 to 25 (Thursday and Friday) at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City. This event aims to build a multi-sector perspective on the programs for sustainability that CAAP has outlined in its strategic roadmap called Flight Plan 2020. In the spirit of consensus and inclusiveness, CAAP believes that the viability and success of its initiatives lie on its aggregate ownership by its stakeholders and partners for the welfare of the air traveling public.
The summit will have seven discussion panels with leading personalities from the domestic and international civil aviation sectors, government, private enterprises and representatives from its stakeholder groups — airline operators, general aviation, aviation/flying schools, maintenance organizations and aerospace industries as discussants. Each panel will have a moderator and panel discussants who will articulate specific issues of vital importance to the implementation of CAAP Flight Plan 2020 and its programs for sustainability. The initiatives to address them will be scrutinized across the widest spectrum of multi-sector opinions and commentaries. The outcome of these discussions will be compiled in a report that will be a vital input in crafting the “Good Governance Circular” of CAAP for the adherence of its stakeholders as an integral part of its regulatory mandate and function. The subject matter of the discussion panels are as follows: Panel 1 – “CAAP, Manila FIR/ R. A. 9497 and Philippine Sovereignty” Panel 2 – “Good Governance and its Impact on Aviation Safety” Panel 3 – “Civil- Military Aviation: Synergy through Collaboration”
Panel 4 – “Philippine Civil Aviation Industry: Challenges and Prospects”
Panel 5 – “Public-Private Partnerships and Aviation Infrastructure in the Philippines”
Panel 6 – “The Future of the Philippine Aerospace Industries within the ASEAN Single Aviation Market (ASAM)” Panel 7 – “Investing in the New Generation Aviation Professionals” The summit will be held in lieu of the 2015 National ASEAN Single Aviation Market (ASAM) Convention and the 3rd Philippine Aviation Safety and Good Governance Symposium, the events undertaken by CAAP annually as part of its continuing efforts to engage its stakeholders.
As the ASEAN Economic Integration (AEI) - which commences in 2015, has a profound impact on regional governance and business creating opportunities yet posing challenges as well, the summit has a three-fold objective:
1. To disseminate the major initiatives and thrusts embodied in the CAAP Flight Plan 2020 to the broadest audience of decisionmakers in the private and public secrtors;
2. To generate multi-sector interest and involvement in the development role of CAAP in Philippine civil aviation; and
3. To secure the multi-sector support and cooperation in ensuring the accomplishment of the programs for CAAP’s sustainability.
The Philippine Aviation Summit demonstrates CAAP’s commitment to broadening awareness of the public in general, and air travelers, in particular, on the role and function of CAAP, as the regulator of the civil aviation sector and in harnessing the synergies of its stakeholders in a consensual and inclusive manner in advancing the objectives of CAAP Flight Plan 2020.
