-

In February 1965, the Fernando Poe Jr. and John Saxon starrer, Only the Brave Know Hell and its Tagalog version, Hanggang May Kalaban, were showing simultaneously in downtown Manila. The English version at Podmon along then Azcarraga Avenue (now Recto) and the Tagalog version at nearby Center on Quezon Boulevard.

The Poe-Saxon movie was billed “The biggest war picture ever filmed in the Philippines,” meant for world release. Needless to say, it was a blockbuster. Leading lady was Bronwyn FitzSimons, the daughter of Hollywood actress Maureen O’Hara. A joint Philippine-American production, Only the Brave Know Hell was directed by Eddie Romero. Costars: Robert Arevalo, Mike Parsons, Vic Diaz and Vic Silayan. Introducing Kristina Scott.

Another Philippine-American production FPJ topbilled with Jock Mahoney was Walls of Hell. — RKC
