From small panaderya to 2-storey café

-

The small panaderya ( bakery) in Nueva Ecija has grown into the twostorey Ka Tunying’s Café at # 88 Visayas Avenue, Quezon City ( for inquiries, call landline 703- 4239).

“It’s a tribute to my father who ran that panaderya in our home province,” said Antonio Taberna ( the old man’s junior), more known as Ka Tunying to the followers of his dzMM radio program Dos Por Dos with Gerry Baja, who owns and manages the café with his wife Rossel Velasco ( formerly of the GMA talent search StarStruck).

In honor of Ka Tunying’s father, the café serves signature pastries ( Tunying’s Crinkles, Kalabasa Ensaymada,

Kamote Cheese Roll, Carrot Muffin and Spanish Bread, among them) aside from breakfast served the whole day, with such choices as Champorado Supreme, Relyenong Bangus and Batotay Tapsilog.

More: Hot and cold beverages like barako coffee, citrumeric milkshake, sweet- tasting pastillas smoothies, luscious chocolaty to detoxifying greens and

Mochabayan Frappe ( barako espresso with Taal chocolate and dark chocolate icecream). “We also serve Agimat for those on a strict diet,” said Tunying. “It’s a perfect blend of calamansi, cucumber and ginger syrup. For diabetics, we have sugar- free items, too.”

Incidentally, aside from helping manage Tunying’s Café, Rossel is also busy as head of the Outbox Media Production Agency, engaged in events management and multimedia production. It started in 2006 when Masscom students embarked on an events- organizing venture, initially doing music videos as their college final project and evolving into a full- service out- of- the- box company.
