‘Trailblazing’ superstars spice up PSL

- By JOEY VILLAR

The 2015 Philippine SuperLiga Grand Prix has brought in a dozen imports to add more spark and spice up the league and provide torrid action for the local fans.

For two months now, these 12 ladies have been wowing the crowd not just with their strong play but also with their looks.

Two that stood the most are Americans Bojana Todorovic and Alexis Olgard, whose power-hitting ways have spearheaded Philips Gold to the No. 1 seeding capped by an emphatic 28-30, 29-27, 25-17, 25-23 victory over defending champion Petron just recently.

“They’re not only strong players individually, but they’re also team players,” said Philips Gold coach Francis Vicente of Todorovic and Olgard.

In terms of individual strengths though, there is a thin line separating these beautiful reinforcements.

Take for instance RC Cola-Air Force’s Sarah McClinton of the United States and Puerto Rican national team mainstay Lyndsay Morales and Meralco’s Christina Alessi of the US and Liis Kullerkann of Estonia, who pack the same power and exude the same charisma as Todorovic and Olgard even though their teams didn’t make the semis cut.

Not to be outdone are Petron’s Brazilian tandem of Erica Adachi and Rupia Inck Furtado, Cignal’s Amanda Anderson and Ariel Usher of the US and Foton’s Katie Messing and Lindsey Furtado also of the US, all crowd magnets. Vicente sums it up. “There’s no clear favorites because they’re all almost equal,” he said.
