Like an AC Girl

- by MICHELLE DAYRIT-SOLIVEN ( Would love to hear from you at miladayjewels@yahoo.com.)

The Silver jubilarians of Assumption High School Batch ‘90 hosted this year’s annual velada. They provided a spectacular stage for their guest performers: the Pearl, Jade, Diamond and Blue Diamond batches.

The annual homecoming star ted with a thanksgiving Mass in the chapel attended by the “Old Girls,” each proudly wearing her plaid uniform. Voting for the Assumption Alumni Association officers also took place on that day. After a long lunch reunion, the highlight of the day was a two-hour program of song and dance held at the Mother Rose Auditorium. What many don’t know is that this precious velada tradition isn’t just about dancing on stage but it goes beyond as every AC Girl’s brave dance through life.

According to Therese Ng of Batch ‘90, they valiantly try to follow the teachings of our beloved foundress, St. Marie Eugenie: that every AC Girl must try to live a life of purpose.

AC Girls have been taught to fix their gaze on Jesus Christ. They must be socially aware and socially responsible. They must fly with unclipped wings. They must transform society. And they must give back and give until it no longer hurts.

This year’s homecoming, aptly titled “Like an AC Girl,” proved that it is possible — through perseverance, prayer and commitment — to fulfill the dreams of St. Marie Eugenie. The mission schools that AC Girls support during the annual velada continue to provide transformative education for those in dire need. And year after year, the Old Girls come home to Assumption to joyfully give thanks for the many gifts they have received.

Congratulations to the AC Girls!
