FedEx donates solar lamps for FedEx Cares Week
As part of its efforts to promote local community development and environmental sustainability, FedEx Express and Hands on Manila recently conducted the FedEx Powers All Lights Village Magsino program to provide solar lamps to an off- grid community in Barangay Tala, Rizal, Laguna.
All Lights Village is a longterm development program that provides solar-powered lights to rural villages with limited access to electrical power. It aims to help improve the overall quality of life of residents through the efficient use of available resources.
Thirty-five FedEx employee volunteers helped install ten solar lamp posts that will provide lighting to 100 families. The volunteers also refurbished the community learning center, planted tree seedlings in the vicinity, and hosted fun games with the community children. The activity was part of the eighth annual FedEx Cares Week, a worldwide initiative where FedEx team members in 12 Asia-Pacific markets give back to their communities.
“At FedEx, we are committed to support the social needs of local communities where our team members live and work,” said John Peterson, FedEx Express acting managing director of operations – Philippines, Brunei, and Indonesia. “Through the All Lights Village program, we help deliver access to electrical power to underserved, off-grid communities. We hope the program will help in local community development and enable residents of Barangay Tala to lead more productive lives.”
Across the region, FedEx Cares Week activities have a strong community and sustainability focus. About 1,100 FedEx volunteers in Asia Pacific took part in 42 community activities from Sept. 10 to Nov. 7.
Globally, more than 10,000 FedEx team members are expected to volunteer nearly 55,000 hours during FedEx Cares Week.
