Fides Asensio, Ophie Bakker, MSO in Ayala Museum concert for the environmen­t

Philippine music icon Fides Cuyugan- Asensio and environmen­tal activist Ophie Mananquil- Bakker will sing with the Manila Symphony Orchestra ( MSO) in a “Musical Tribute to Education and the Environmen­t” on Nov. 25, Wednesday, at 6 p. m. at the Ayala Museum.

Keynote speakers are environmen­tal advocates Senator Loren Legarda and the MVP Group of Companies.

Songs about the environmen­t, nature and youth leadership will be rendered by soprano Asensio, such as Nature

Boy and Summertime, while mezzo-soprano Bakker will sing Trees, The Prayer and Wind Beneath My Wings.

Tenors Lorenzo Garcia, Josh Tiu, Henry Jacques Bakker and Jacob Bakker will perform Exodus, Anthem, You Raise

Me Up and Tulips from Amsterdam. Southeaste­rn College Children’s Choir will sing We Are the World and Paraiso.

The benefit concert-tribute was initiated by FEED (Fostering Education and Environmen­t for Developmen­t Inc.) patrons Lyn Gamboa and Linda Mañalac, who said, “We encouraged FEED to share their mission with a wider public audience to showcase theirs and their partners’ accomplish­ments through this musical tribute.”

FEED president Bakker said, “Everyone is performing from the heart — communicat­ing our appeal for the continued endorsemen­t of much-needed educationa­l and environmen­tal progress in the Philippine­s — through their voices, musicality and dedication to these causes.”

Full proceeds of the concert will go directly to FEED’s treeplanti­ng programs, scholarshi­ps for underprivi­leged youth, research and livelihood and social forestry projects in agricultur­e, environmen­t, farming and forestry.

The event is presented in collaborat­ion with Manila North Tollways Corp., Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., Congressma­n Victor and former Mayor Mary Jane Ortega of La Union, FEED partners and patrons Adopt a Coral, Mario and Nina Aguas, Auggie Cordero, Patis Tesoro Boutique, Ben and Cynthia Ching, Kelly Deuster, Aaron Budd, Neil and Lyn Gamboa, Gregorio and Lina Gervasio, Martha Horrigan, Linda and Tong Mañalac, Peachy Mañalac, Manoling Morato, Missionari­es of the Poor, Pampanga State Agricultur­al University, Tony Pastor, Philippine Army and Air Force, former ambassador Menchu Salas, Tanlak Beach Resort and Dive Center, University of the Philippine­s Los Baños, Larry and Winston Uy, and Wong Chu King Foundation. Overseas partners include Erik Eggarter of Panama; Keith and Rachel Robinson of Zambawood; FEED incorporat­or Perlita Tiro and Ernie of Singapore; Mananquil and Puno- Pineda families ( USA); Siemann (Germany); and Munting Nayon ( The Netherland­s).
