Wildcats top Champs League Minda regional

Holy Trinity College Wildcats, representi­ng Gen. Santos City collegiate leagues, warded off St. Columbian College, representi­ng host Pagadian City, 86-79, to rule the Mindanao regional games of 2015 National Collegiate Championsh­ip in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur recently.

In the battle for third, St. John Paul II College of Davao, routed Southern City College of Zamboanga, 98-65.

The National Collegiate Championsh­ip (NCC) is organized and managed by Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL). It is an annual multi-level nationwide competitio­n that brings together collegiate champions all over the country to determine the one and only national collegiate champion for the year. The winner is awarded the possession of the M. V. Pangilinan Perpetual Trophy Sculpture, “Abutin Ang Tagumpay”. The San Beda College Red Lions are the current holders of the sculpture.

Coach Joe Lipa, PCCL executive director, graced the regional championsh­ip games at Pagadian City and noted that the Wildcats will be competitiv­e and worthy representa­tives of the region in the next phase of National Collegiate Championsh­ip.

The HTC Wildcats will go to Ormoc City for the Vis- Min Qualifying games competing against the champion of Visayas regional games, CESAFI second placer, University of Visayas Green Lancers, and University of San JoseRecole­tos, CESAFI third placer. The winner of the Vis-Min Qualifying games earns a seat in the Elite Eight phase of the 2015 National Collegiate Championsh­ip to be held Dec. 14-17 in Manila.

Lipa also announced the schedule of the other regional games as follows: South Luzon-Bicol – Nov. 20-27 to be held in Tanauan City, Batangas and Naga City; NorthCentr­al Luzon – Nov. 30-Dec. 5 in Dagupan City; Visayas Islands – Dec. 4-7 in Ormoc City.
