Volkswagen Golf GTI is Best Sports Hatch in the COTY Awards by CAGI
The Car Awards Group, Inc. ( CAGI) awarded the Volkswagen Golf GTI as the Best Sports Hatch at the recently concluded Car of the Year Awards held at the Golden Pavilion of the Fontana Resort in Angeles, Pampanga.
With this recognition, the Volkswagen Golf GTI has achieved a rare accomplishment in Philippine motoring: five major awards by the country’s three most recognized motoring media organizations in one year. These include Best in Premium Compact category at the 11th Annual C! Awards Night last September 15, Luxury Subcompact category winner and Media’s Choice for Best Engine Performance and Best Value-for-Money at the 2015–2016 Auto Focus People’s Choice and Media’s Choice on October 16.
The awards recognized Volkswagen Golf GTI’s class-leading features, amenities, and safety innovations, such as:
• The 2.0-L turbocharged stratified injection (TSI) engine generating a maximum output of 220 PS at 4,500-6,200 rpm and a maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1,500-4,400 rpm;
• The six- speed Dual Shift Gear ( DSG) transmission and sports suspension;
• Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) with XDS plus technology, engine drag torque control (MSR), electronic parking brake with auto hold, rear assist rear view camera with eight-channel park distance control, a driver alert system, and airbags (driver, passenger, driver knee, front side and curtain);
• The exterior styling, highlighted by the GTI package that comes with the 18-inch Austin alloy wheels, bumpers, grille, tail lamps, spoiler, and, dual tailpipes; Bi-Xenon headlamps with daytime running lights (DRL); and dynamic headlamp control;
• The interior features of the GTI package, which include GTI premium sport seats with “Clark” fabric and Alcantara material, GTI steering wheel with paddle shifts; GTI shift knob, stainless steel pedals, scuff plates, and trim; Keyless-Go entry/exit with push start; interior ambient lighting; and, a climatronic two-zone air-conditioning system.
