Looking your best for the holidays

- by JOANNE ZAPANTA-ANDRADA

Christmas is just around the corner and with it comes the obligatory family get- togethers, cocktails and parties. So what is a girl to wear? Uptown/ Downtown gives you a few pointers on how to look great for the holidays!

For starters, makeup artist Jhonathan Ocsan suggests keeping a simple elegant look this season. “This year, the emphasis is on skin. Keep your skin f lawless by investing in really good foundation that suits your skin type,” Ocsan shares. U/ D recommends MAC Studio Face and Body Foundation for daytime events and Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation for evening shindigs.

Ocsan cautions about using SPF foundations for evening par ties, though. “Using an SPF foundation is not as useful at night because there is no sunlight to protect against. Also, SPF foundation does

not render well in f lash photography as the titanium dioxide in the formulation creates a ref lective white when exposed to intense artificial light.”

For your dress, consider choosing bright colors — red, royal blue, Kelly green, fuchsia, orange. Jewel colors make you stand out both in person and in social media photos. If you plan to wear a simple LBD, choose an edgier shoe design, perhaps one that is accented with spikes, a metallic or neon color. Shiny finishes are popular this year so by all means do not be shy about opting for sequins or lamé.

When picking a silhouette for your dress, you may wish to select a dramatic look to highlight a part of your body. Have a V- shaped torso? Then cinch that waist with a wide belt. Blessed with a f lawless back? Now is the time to f launt it — go with that backless dress. If you choose to make a statement by wearing a dramatic dress or jewelry, keep your hair sleek and smooth and makeup understated. Choose a focal point instead of confusing the eye with too many elements.

Here’s to a blissful and beautiful Christmas everyone!
