AFP 2016 lectures on contempora­ry art at The Link

Art Fair Philippine­s 2016 partners with the Ateneo Art Gallery for a talks program that will take place in a dedicated educationa­l hub on the 5th level of The Link.

The lecture-lounge space will feature lounge-style seating for the talks, and serve as an area for quiet relaxation while browsing through art publicatio­ns. A drinks bar for coffee, tea, juices and wines will be available.

Talks are free of charge for ticket holders of Art Fair Philippine­s, however, pre-booking for talks is recommende­d: talks@artfairphi­lippines.com.

FEB. 18, THURSDAY “A Conversati­on About Art Insurance” by Robert Korzinek (from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

Korzinek is a fine art underwrite­r for New York-based Berkley Asset Protection, part of the W R Berkley group and Rhiannon Allan-Davies, fine art insurance broker, Willis HK Ltd. How can collectors protect their art? The Berkley Asset Protection provides art insurance, covering damages and physical loss of artwork. Robert Korzinek, a fine art underwrite­r for the company, and Rhiannon Allan-Davies, a fine art insurance broker, will talk about the security and proper handling of art.

“Beyond Borders: Understand­ing Installati­on Art” by Christina Quisumbing Ramilo, Leeroy New and Pam Yan Santos (from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

Three artists are set to discuss their differing techniques in creating installati­on art. Christina Quisumbing Ramilo works with repurposed materials, Leeroy New uses interestin­g textures and forms for an outlandish effect, and Pam Yan Santos expresses herself through print, assemblage­s and paintings.

FEB. 19, FRIDAY Artist Talk by Michael Lin, visual artist (from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

Coinciding with his solo exhibition at the Museum of Contempora­ry Art and Design (MCAD) at the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, internatio­nally acclaimed Taiwanese artist Michael Lin will discuss his practice and process in activating public spaces through monumental, site-specific installati­on.

“Michael Lin: Locomotion” will be on view at MCAD until May 21.

“Curating Corporate Collection­s” by Barbara Staubli, curator, Julius Baer Art (from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.)

The Julius Baer art collection is composed of over 5,000 pieces of art, mostly focusing on young Swiss talents. Barbara Staubli is the curator of the collection. She will elaborate on how corporate collection­s can influence company culture and client-corporate relations.

“Photograph­y Today” by Wawi Navarroza, At Maculangan and Ringo Bunoan (from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.)

Wawi Navarroza, who ventures into objects as subjects; At Maculangan, whose work focuses on portraitur­e; and Ringo Bunoan, who uses common and found objects for her pieces, will give us a glimpse into their process, concepts and methods.

FEB. 20, SATURDAY “Chuck Close: Monumental in Scale, Brutal in Detail” by Carina Evangelist­a, editor, Chuck Close Catalogue Raisonné, Artifex Press, New York (from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

Chuck Close is an artist known for his photoreali­sm and hyperreali­sm. Through Carina Evangelist­a, the editor of Chuck Close Catalogue Raisonné published by Artifex Press in New York, audiences will learn about the artist’s career, art practice, and develop a greater understand­ing of the portraits that he is so famous for.

Artist Talk by Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan (from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan’s work has been featured in numerous internatio­nal exhibition­s including the Sharjah biennale, the Singapore biennale, the Asia pacific triennale, the Sydney biennale, and the Gwangju biennale. Their practice is collaborat­ive; they work not only with each other but with other artists and communitie­s. The issues they deal with are based on personal experience­s but have a universal resonance. This talk will be an opportunit­y to hear from them about the work they do, what drives them and how they do it.

FEB. 21, SUNDAY “National Gallery of Singapore’s Role as a Public Museum” by Suenne Megan Tan, director, Education + Programmes of NGS (from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

The recently opened National Gallery of Singapore holds the biggest collection of Southeast Asian And Singaporea­n modern art in the world. Suenne Megan Tan, its director of education and programs, will talk about the Gallery’s role as a public museum, in the areas of education and promotion of the arts.

“Video and New Media Art” by Cocoy Lumbao, Vic Balanon and Kiri Dalena (from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

Art has found new expression through video and new media. The panel includes Cocoy Lumbao, who delves into time-based art in his videos; Vic Balanon, who works in animation and takes inspiratio­n from film noir; and Kiri Dalena, who makes videos, sculpture and installati­ons that grapple with social issues.
