Maynilad spends P1.1B for pipe replacements
West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. spent P1.1 billion for its pipe replacement projects.
Maynilad replaced 235 kilometers of old and leaky pipes in its service area, allowing the company to recover approximately 58 million liters per day (MLD) of potable water, enough to supply over 400,000 customers.
The completed projects were located in various portions of Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, Parañaque and Cavite City.
“When we took over Maynilad in 2007, the pipe network we inherited included the oldest water system in Asia. Maynilad has since replaced around 1,520 kilometers of damaged pipes in the West
Zone,” Maynilad president and chief executive officer Ramoncito Fernandez said.
Last year, Maynilad provided approximately 3,300 jobs from its pipe replacement projects.
Maynilad is investing P13.6 billion for its 2016 capital expenditures, P4 billion of which will go to the construction and rehabilitation of treatment plants, pumping stations and reservoirs, as well as the laying of primary pipelines for water service expansion.
Some P2 billion will be spent for Maynilad’s non-revenue water (NRW) reduction program, which covers meter management, leak repairs, pipe replacements, and district metered area management.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base.
