Riverbanks, NCCA present Kambas at Sayaw

To instill pride of place and the love for one’s cultural heritage, Riverbanks Center in Marikina City, together with the National Commission for Culture and Arts ( NCCA) presents ‘Kambas at Sayaw,’ a five-day workshop which aims to integrate visual arts and dance as one flowing art process depicting the life and beauty of Marikina River and its surroundin­gs.

Through this workshop, Riverbanks Center will shape the way people, especially the youth, nurture pride of place and show appreciati­on and love for their history, culture, arts and environmen­t.

The workshop will introduce students to a wide variety of creative and developmen­tal processes, including experiment­al drawing synchroniz­ed with creative movement and dance bringing visual arts illustrati­ons into life.

Aside from the combined visual arts and dance syllabus, the works of the late Joey Velasco in his in-house gallery, the Guinness Biggest Pair of Shoe, the Miniature and the Spirit of Belen Museums, the Science Museum, the Amphitheat­re with the scenic view of Marikina River will serve as inspiratio­ns to the participan­ts.

The participan­ts will learn art by doing and exploring different mediums, such as organic and repurposed materials as well as the convention­al paints and inks.

“Kambas at Sayaw” will run for five days from Feb. 22-26, at the E-Com Building, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The highlight of the event which happens at the end of the workshop, is a culminatin­g activity showcasing the artworks and the dance interpreta­tions from the workshops’ showcase.

Certificat­e of participat­ion will be given to those who actively participat­ed, finished all the sessions and performed during the culminatin­g activity on Feb. 27, 4 p.m. at the Ivy Lane of Riverbanks Mall.

This free workshop is open to all high school and college students.
