UE outstanding alumnus to receive honorary degree
The University of the East will confer upon Jesus Lim Arranza, chairman of the Federation of Philippine Industries Inc. (FPI), the degree of doctor of humanities, honoris causa, Feb. 22, 10 a.m., at its Conference Hall, UE Manila campus.
At age 28, Arranza became vice president of the International Oil Factory, a position he held from 1965 to 1980. Within that period, he became the chairman of the Coconut Oil Refiners Association, a title he holds to this day.
He was chairman of the United Coconut Association of the Philippines from 1992 to 1995, and again from 1996 to 1999. He also served as the founding chairman of ASEAN Vegetable Oils Club from 1994 to 1996 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was director of the United Coconut Planters Bank from 2002 to 2009 and became president and CEO of the CIIF Oil Mills Group, composed of oil mills sequestered by the government, from 2009 to 2013.
Besides being FPI Chairman, Arranza also chairs the federation’s anti- smuggling committee. His advocacy expanded when he became the lead convenor of Fight IT (Illicit Trade), which also covers fake products, substandard products, cartel and restraint of trade, among others.
Currently, Arranza is a consultant of both the Dangerous Drugs Board and, just recently, the National Bureau of Investigation. He also hosts the long-running AM radio show Dito sa Bayan ni Juan.
Arranza was recognized by the University as one of its 60 Most Outstanding Alumni during the celebration of UE’s 60th foundation anniversary in 2006.
