Nursing board topnotcher gets P.2 M from Erap

- Jose Rodel Clapano

A graduate of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) will receive P200,000 from Mayor Joseph Estrada for topping the recent licensure examination for nurses.

Suha Canlas Hassan Magdy Mohammed Ibrahim bested 9,113 passers out of 18,500 examinees nationwide. She got a score of 86.40 percent. Four other PLM nursing graduates made it to the Top 10.

Nicole Morando Bautista landed 10th place. Mark Angelo Balisa Echano, Pascual Valencia Fortaleza Jr. and Jhun Clydin Agtarap Guillermo tied for the ninth spot.

As a token of gratitude to the topnotchers, Estrada said he would give Ibrahim a cash incentive of P200,000 and P100,000 each for Bautista, Echano, Fortaleza and Guillermo.

“I am congratulating the members of the PLM’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Class of 2015 who passed the licensure examination given last November. Your collective performance brought honor to the PLM, your alma mater, and the city of Manila,” Estrada said during the oathtaking rites of the new registered nurses at the PLM-Justo Albert Auditorium on Thursday.

“Three-peat champion na ang PLM!… The percentage passing rate your batch posted — an impressive 97.44 percent — was way above the passing rate of 49.26 percent. The PLM is one of the country’s top universities, especially for nursing,” Estrada added. He vowed to continue pursuing academic excellence programs for the city’s students.

“By topping last November’s exams, Ibrahim extended PLM’s hold on the No. 1 spot for three consecutive years,” Estrada said.

The PLM topped the nursing board exam in 2013 when Estrada first assumed office and in 2014.

Estrada said the PLM’s accomplishments encouraged him to continue introducing more reforms and projects to the university.

PLM students enjoy free shuttle service, accident insurance, uniforms and graduation “togas” through Estrada’s initiatives.

The school has received in full its financial subsidies from the city government.

A free Wi-Fi Internet service has been installed at the school campus.
