Spirit of EDSA Foundation awards
To observe the 30th anniversary of the People Power Revolution that generated worldwide acknowledgement for the gallantry and unified peaceful action of the Filipino people in casting away the Marcos dictatorship, the Spirit of EDSA Foundation, Inc. (SOEF) is honoring 20 EDSA Freedom Fighters and 3 individuals for Good Citizenship. The awarding ceremony is scheduled on Feb. 22 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Building, Makati City.
The awardees, both deceased and living, for the restoration of Freedom, Justice and Democracy are: President Fidel Ramos, Sen. Agapito “Butz” Aquino (posthumous), (Ret.) Gen. Antonio Sotelo, Sen. Lorenzo Tañada (posthumous), Sen. Jose Diokno (posthumous), Sen. Francisco “Soc” Rodrigo (posthumous), Sen. Raul Manglapus (posthumous), Heherson Alvarez, Sen. Aquilino Pimentel, Sr., Alejandro Roces (posthumous), Jaime Ongpin (posthumous), Salvador “Doy” Laurel (posthumous), Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, Msgr. Nicanor Bautista (posthumous), Jose Concepcion, Jr., Vicente Jayme (posthumous), Jose Burgos (posthumous), Eugenia Apostol and Letty Jimenez-Magsanoc (posthumous).
The Good Citizenship awards go to Vice President Emmanuel Pelaez (posthumous), Bro. Rolando Dizon, FSC (posthumous) and Sen. Leticia Ramos-Shahani.
Since its creation in 1992, the Spirit of EDSA Foundation, Inc. has conceptualized the creation of an EDSA People Power Freedom Center to have a permanent repository of EDSA memorabilia and living museum about the period in our history depicting the Filipino fight for freedom from Mactan to EDSA and encourage succeeding generations to defend the legacy of freedom.
The project had the blessings of former presidents Cory Aquino, Fidel Ramos and Gloria MacapagalArroyo.
