Yasmien joins charity album One Heart

- By Bot Glorioso,

Count Yasmien Kurdi on the list of celebrities who do not have to think twice when it comes to doing good. Aside from donating in kind or in cash, she believes that there are times when the best things to offer are time, effort and talent. Just recently, Yasmien and several

Kapuso artists joined forces in coming up with an all-star charity album titled One Heart under GMA Records.

According to Yasmien, she accepted the invite to be part of the album without ifs and buts. “This is one way of sharing whatever I can in terms of my talent. And I think this came to me at the right time because I’ve been longing to sing again. At habang napapasaya ko ang sarili ko dahil sa pagkanta, napapasaya ko rin ang mga tao kasi nakakatulong ako.”

Among the original songs in the album, Yasmien chose to record Panahon for its heartfelt words with a clear message that one’s desire or wish will be realized at the right time. “I heard that they’re pitching the song for soap operas. Panahon is also perfect as theme song for GMA drama shows.”

Yasmien shared that charity works have been part of her life ever since she was young. She recalled how her heart bled countless times for the needy and sick children when she was still attending to her duty as a nursing student in government hospitals during college days.

“I was assigned in the children’s ward then and there were times that I would hear their parents not having enough cash to buy simple stuff like gauze pads. Kaya ang ginagawa ko ako na lang ang magbibigay for them. I believe that when you are blessed, you give. Share whatever you can with a cheerful heart and even without expecting, the blessings will come back to you more than double of what you have given.”

Now that Yasmien is blessed with a fulfilling showbiz career, she never fails to do acts of kindness whenever possible. In fact, she recently had a meaningful birthday celebration with the children of CRIBS Foundation. “I really have a soft spot for kids, especially those who were abandoned by their moms and those victims of child molestation. Sobrang nakaka- touch kasi sa murang edad naranasan na nila yung di dapat nila maranasan.”

Being a mom herself, Yasmien makes sure that her daughter Ayesha Zara, 3, is well-taken care of but not to the point of spoiling her. She’s been teaching Ayesha to love others. “I want her to learn how to share in her own little way. Like her toys, instead of occupying a lot of space in the house, I tell her that she can give them to other kids. And it’s so nice to know that at a young age, she knows how to share her things pati yung mga damit na maliliit na sa kanya pero magaganda pa naman at magagamit pa ng ibang bata.”

Her last soap Yagit reminded Yasmien of the less-fortunate kids in the metro. “That’s why we should appreciate the blessings in whatever form and it is important to share whatever you can.”

Meanwhile, her contract with the Kapuso network will expire in November and Yasmien is hoping to find a new manager who will be able to boost her career more. Lolit Solis was her manager who handled her career after her stint in StarStruck 1. Yasmien said that she and Lolit have amicably parted ways.

“I want to do a lot of things. Gusto kong kumanta, gumawa ng pelikula at teleserye. I want to explore,” Yasmien added.

Good thing the One Heart album came along. “Yes, ito talaga ang gusto kong gawin ulit ang kumanta.”

Aside from Panahon, other songs included in the album are the album’s carrier single Sa Puso Mo (written and arranged by Korean composer Kim Hyun Jik), Tonight, Kapit Lang, Free, Para Lang Sayo, Wait A Minute, You Are Never Alone, Broken, Love You The Way I Do and Sumigaw, Gumalaw. Other GMA artist talents featured in the album are Glaiza de Castro, Derrick Monasterio, Kristoffer Martin, Kylie Padilla, Ruru Madrid, Julian Trono, Betong Sumaya, Gabbi Garcia, Maricris Garcia, Rita Daniela, James Wright, Nar Cabico, Kai Atienza, Hannah Prescillas, Kath Castillo, Ralf King, Lindsay de Vera and Denise Barbacena.

One Heart is now available in record bars nationwide. Its digital format can be purchased on iTunes. Part of the album’s proceeds will go to GMA Kapuso Foundation headed by Mel Tiangco.
