A man said to be high on drugs allegedly killed his 72-year-old mother in Tondo, Manila over the weekend.

Ramon Fernandez, 48, arrived at their house on Sta. Maria street, Barangay 81 at past 2 p.m. Saturday and asked money from his mother, Superintendent Redentor Ulsano, Manila Police District Station 1 chief, said.

“Fernandez’s mother refused to give him money because she knew that he would only buy drugs,” Ulsano said.

Irked, Fernandez beat his mother and dragged her to the bathroom where he hit the victim’s head on the toilet, police said.

Ulsano said he received a telephone call from a concerned citizen, saying Fernandez took his mother hostage.

Responding police officers led by Inspector Edwin Fuggan arrived at the scene and arrested Fernandez.

Police brought the old woman to the Ospital ng Tondo, where she died of severe injuries.

According to police, Fernandez is a known drug user and has been in and out of rehabilitation centers.

Charges of parricide will be filed against him with the Manila prosecutor’s office.
