Lady Spikers, Tams prevail in UAAP volley

La Salle bucked an error-filled game to hammer out a 25-10, 25-13, 25-21 victory over University of the East in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“May 23 unforced errors so kailangang maibaba pa namin yun para maayos ang lagay ng mga bata sa

mga darating na laro,” said coach Ramil de Jesus after his Lady Spikers posted their second straight win and fourth overall in five contests.

Mika Reyes took the scoring mantle for La Salle with 10 hits, nine coming off spikes, while Ara Galang and Majoy Baron chipped in nine and eight hits, respective­ly.

Lady Spikers playmaker Kim Fajardo tossed in 14 excellent sets on top of six points while libero Dawn Macandili scooped 11 digs.

Later, Far Eastern University hacked out a narrow 27-25, 21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12 victory over University of the Philippine­s and tied idle National University in third spot at 3-2.

Meanwhile, defending champion Ateneo and Adamson forged a three-way tie with NU for the men’s lead at 4-1 after besting their respective foes.

Reigning MVP Marck Espejo scored all but one of his 13 points from spikes as the Blue Eagles downed UP, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21, while the Falcons, behind Michael Sudaria’s 16 hits and eight digs, subdued La Salle, 25-6, 24-26, 32-30, 27-25.
