PLDT paces MVP Olympics

Defending overall champion PLDT showed up the opposition during the inaugurals of the 2016 MVP Olympics, wowing the crowd and sweeping the three gold medals at stake on gala evening at the TSB Meralco grounds in Pasig Friday night.

Before a huge cheering crowd of employees and executives from the giant MVP Group of Companies, the PLDT team outperform­ed the rest of the field in Street Dance Battle and in Battle of the Bands, then PLDT top executive Princesita Katigbak capped their dominant show in winning the Executive Cosplay competitio­n.

Counting the medals and points disputed in bowling and golf ahead of the opening ceremonies, the PLDT team gained the early lead in the fight for overall championsh­ip in the largest corporate sporting event in the country with 41 points on a haul of six gold medals, three silver and one bronze.

Through Friday night, Meralco was second with 25 points with a gold-silver-bronze harvest of 3-2-2, followed by Tollways with 1-3-1 for 16 points, Smart with 0-0-7 for 14 points and Maynilad with 1-2-0 for 11.

Hostilitie­s in the 12-day competitio­n went full blast yesterday with the start of the volleyball competitio­n and the staging of fun games among the entities under the MVP Group, including MPIC Hospitals Group, Philex Mining, MediaQuest, ePLDT, Spi Global and Metro Pacific Investment­s Corp.

Also set last night was the MVP Olympics Talent Night where the Bb. MVP Olympics and winner of the sing-a-like were to be known.

MVP Group big boss Manny V. Pangilinan led the lighting of the cauldron Friday night, ushering the opening-night festivitie­s dominated by PLDT top bets.

Team Maynilad and Team Smart placed second and third in the Battle of the Bands while Maynilad and Meralco took second-place and second runner-up honors in Street Dance Battle.

Katigbak bagged the top plum in Cosplay event as Extella the Genesis, winning over Tollways’ Romulo Quimbo as Nautilus the Metal Hero and Meralco’s Al Panlilio as Buzz Light Year.

All competing executives came out in impressive costumes, providing extra fun and excitement in a night of sound, dances and colors.

Football competitio­n is set today at the FEU-FERN football field in Fairview, QC while dogdeball gets underway also today over at the Meralco tennis courts.

Set Feb. 29 to March 3 are chess, tennis, table tennis and Frisbee. Other events on tap in the sports event organized by the MVP Sports Foundation are badminton, billiards, executive two-ball shootout, darts, track and field and cheer dance.
