“It’s a fact that the influence of ancient gods and deities on humanity, even before the rise of Judaism, Christiani­ty and Islam, has laid the foundation of our troubled age and will likely divide the world for eternity,” says Gods

of Egypt director Alex Proyas.

“People around the world today are fighting one another in the name of religion and that’s bad,” he continues. “Warfare has religious aspects since the prehistori­c period. In the religions of the Ancient Near East, each city-state would have its own tutelary deity, as it were owning, ruling and protecting the city. Warfare between these cities was conceived of as warfare between the cities’ national gods.”

Eons of years past, people regard everything around them as filled with mystery. Within their culture arose polytheism, a highly-regarded practice on depending on deities who they believe as the powerful force beyond the physical world, worlds of the ancient past such as Egypt have long establishe­d their own hierarchy of gods and goddesses.

Unlike today’s battles where man and nation fight against each other for supremacy, the battles lost and won in the past, millions of years ago, are believed to have been waged between powerful gods and brave mortals. In the latest Gods of Egypt, a non-stop action movie laden with stunning visual works, the Egyptian gods and mortals live in a world where an ongoing battle to save the humans and preserve the hierarchy of the powerful gods hang in the balance.

The mythology of Greek gods that have been passed on from one generation to the next among the most famous of the Egyptian gods is Horus in Gods of Egypt. Portrayed by Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Horus the hawk-headed individual who was held as the keeper and protector of Egypt, the Pharaoh/ Queen at the time was known as The Living Horus. Along with the various wars in ancient history when polytheism is highly observed, beliefs in various gods/deities,

Gods of Egypt introduces the audience to Egyptian deities that have held mortals under their protection and powers.

In Gods of Egypt, a young man named Bek (played by Brenton Thwaites) goes on a journey along with the god Horus to save the world and his one true love. With the help of the powerful god Horus, their alliance will prove to be a challenge against Set (Gerald Butler), the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. As their breathtaki­ng battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the spectacula­r final confrontat­ion.
