Drugs eyed in plumber’s murder

- – Rey Galupo

Police investigators are looking into the activities of a 24-year-old plumber who was gunned down in Caloocan City Saturday night.

Benjie Escobar was on his way to buy cigarettes at a store at the corner of Sabalo and Kapak Streets at around 9: 30 p. m. when his assailant, identified only as Maui, shot him.

Witnesses said at least four persons were with the assailant, who had apparently been waiting for Escobar.

Bystanders rushed Escobar to the Caloocan City Medical Center, but he died while being treated several hours later.

Escobar’s sister said her brother could have been involved in the illegal drug trade “because the suspect was a known pusher in the area.”

The Caloocan police launched a manhunt for the suspect and his companions.
