Quiapo fire leaves 200 families homeless

- – Rey Galupo

A fire broke out in the vicinity of the Golden Mosque in Quiapo, Manila Saturday night, leaving 200 families homeless.

The blaze started at around 6 p.m., destroying at least 100 houses and an estimated P2 million in property before it was put out at around 11 p.m.

An explosion was heard just before the fire broke out at the second floor of one of the houses, Fire Officer 1 Freddie Ibasco said.

He said firefighters had a hard time putting out the blaze because of the narrow alleys in the area.
