Advertising icon Merlee Cruz-Jayme reveals her creativity secrets in a book
Want to be more creative, but don’t think you have it in you? Learn how to unlock your talents from one of the best minds in the business of creativity with Summit Books’ newest release, Everyone Can Be Creative: Inspiring Habits From An
Ex-Nun, written and illustrated by multiawarded advertising executive Merlee Cruz-Jayme.
In Everyone Can Be Creative, Merlee, who is founder, “chairmom,” and chief creative officer of international awardwinning creative agency DM9 Jayme Syfu, reveals practical tips and insights that will guide readers in discovering, embracing, and developing their creative abilities.
Merlee believes that there are two kinds of creative people — the naturally creative and the learning creative — and through this book, she aims to help hone the gift of creativity in both kinds.
Merlee’s trajectory to becoming one of the most distinguished names in advertising in the Philippines and beyond is an interesting one, because her background includes spending three years inside the rigid Benedictine Monastery in her teens.
In Everyone Can Be Creative, Merlee shares the valuable lessons she gained from her unconventional beginnings, and how the discipline she developed during her time at the convent helped her along her journey to success.
“This book is for the creative in all of us,” says Merlee. “I believe that however hard we try to train our brain to create, it simply takes a bigger power to sustain creativity.”
Merlee is the first Filipino to be awarded The Creative of the Year for Southeast Asia in 2013’s Campaign Asia-Pacific Agency of the Year Awards. She is the only woman in the top 20 Creative Directors in Asia, and was ranked fourth in the 2014 Campaign Brief Asia Ranking. Working as a creative for 25 years, she has also been recognized with The Hall of Fame Award from the Creative Guild of the Philippines, and the New York Festivals Creative Achievement Award.
Everyone Can Be Creative is out now in bookstores and newsstands nationwide for P295. For updates and more information, like Summit Books on Facebook via www.facebook.com/SummitBooks and follow on Instagram via @summit.books.
