Noy facing last days in power with optimism

- By AUREA CALICA

President Aquino remains optimistic in his last days in power as Malacañang dismissed Vice President Jejomar Binay’s statement that the administration has failed to truly uplift the lives of the people and has been under spending.

“I have only 80 days left in office, but I face my final days in this job with optimism because I have faith in our people – that they can look back at all we have achieved together and make the right choice,” Aquino said at the groundbreaking rites for the Clark Green City in Capas, Tarlac on Monday.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. also said over

dzRB the statements of Binay, the opposition’s presidential candidate, were false and baseless given the achievements of the Aquino government since it assumed office in 2010.

Coloma cited the World Bank’s 6.4 percent growth forecast for the Philippines this year, adding the country would also be the fastest growing economy in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the next three years.

Coloma said the projections were encouraging during and after the elections and these would show the strengthening foundations of the economy that should make the Philippines more attractive to investors.

Aquino said there were no funds left for his administration to immediately take off in 2010 and that in 2009, he thought about the many problems he would inherit if he would run for president.

He said there were more problems that were kept hidden by those in power but he was prevailed upon by his supporters, including those from civil society organizations like Alex Lacson, who “told me that the expectation” was for him to start the change and end the abuses, and that they knew that six years would not be enough to correct all of the problems.
