- By JANVIC MATEO – With Paolo Romero

Leading presidential aspirants Sen. Grace Poe and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte are statistically tied in the latest Bilang Pilipino-Social Weather Stations (SWS) mobile survey commissioned by TV5.

Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo surged past other candidates in the vice presidential race in the mobile survey conducted on April 14, four days after the debate among bets for vice president.

Based on the latest survey results released yesterday, Poe received support from 34 percent of the respondents, while Duterte obtained 33 percent on the mobile poll taken on April 13.

Poe’s rating did not change compared with a similar mobile survey conducted on March 30, while Duterte obtained a two-point increase from 31 percent.

Administration bet Manuel Roxas II and Vice President Jejomar Binay – who both received 17 percent in the March 30 survey – dropped to 16 percent and 15 percent respectively in the latest mobile poll.

Sen. Miriam Defensor- Santiago obtained a flat one percent, while one percent of the respondents were undecided.

The Bilang Pilipino SWS Mobile Survey had 1,200 original panel respondents. However, only 676 or 56 percent responded in the April 13 poll: 181 in Metro Manila, 154 in balance Luzon, 187 in the Visayas and 154 in Mindanao.

This gives sampling error margins of plus or minus four percentage points for national percentages. The respondents are all validated voters.

Leni surges in VP race

Robredo obtained 30 percent, up five points from the mobile poll conducted on March 30.

She is now ahead, but remains statistically tied in first spot with Sens. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Francis Escudero.

Marcos obtained a point increase from 26 percent in the March 30 poll to 27 percent in the April 14 poll, while Escudero suffered a six-point drop from 31 percent to 25 percent.

The ratings of Sens. Alan Peter Cayetano, Antonio Trillanes IV and Gregorio Honasan II were unchanged at 13 percent, three percent and one percent, respectively.

Two percent of the respondents were undecided.

The April 14 mobile survey had 648 out of 1,200 respondents: 183 in Metro Manila, 149 in balance Luzon, 169 in the Visayas and 147 in Mindanao.

It had a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points for national percentages.

Voters will not change their minds

In both surveys, six out of ten registered voters – or 61 percent – said they would not change their minds in their choice for president and vice president.

For the presidential race, the 61 percent nationwide result was the average of 67 percent in the Visayas, 64 percent in Metro Manila, 60 percent in Mindanao and 58 percent in balance Luzon.

The proportion of those who have made up their minds are equally high in urban and rural areas, at 62 percent and 61 percent, respectively.

For the vice presidential race, the nationwide result of those who said that they have already made up their minds was the average of the 71 percent in Metro Manila and the 60 percent in the Visayas, Mindanao and balance Luzon.

The proportion of those who have made up their minds is high in urban and rural areas, at 63 percent and 60 percent, respectively.

The Bilang Pilipino-SWS mobile survey is different from the SWS quarterly pre-electoral survey, where Duterte and Marcos are leading in the latest results.

Meanwhile, Robredo took to task yesterday the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) on its implementation of the P19-billion Roadmap to Address the Impact of El Niño (RAIN) to combat the effects of the dry spell on the agriculture sector.
