The beauty of youth
A young woman’s beauty is refreshingly natural. Twenty-two-year- old Niña Brillantes has this pristine quality. With her day-to-day tasks, it is important for her to look good, stay fresh and feel confident to make a great first impression. Niña makes sure she is always in a positive disposition and is well put together without going over the top with simple no-fuss rules.
“First, it’s important that I am happy with what I’m doing because being happy gives one a certain glow. Second, I learned from our culinary class that it’s important to eat well because your diet affects your skin. Also, having enough sleep is the holy grail of all holy grails of beauty because when you have enough sleep, your body gets recharged and it will help you get through the day,” relates Niña, who also believes in the importance of protecting the skin by regularly putting sunblock with the correct SPF.
She hopes to open a restaurant that would promote a healthier way of eating. For this vision to be realized, Niña is now focused on learning as much as she can from her internship in her school at the De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde, where she’s taking up Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management.
“I’m now focused on completing the requirements for me to graduate this October. I had the option to take my internship abroad but I chose to have it locally so I can graduate on time. I chose this course because I like being of service. I am a natural homemaker and I love taking care of people in general. It makes me feel good,” Niña shares.
Niña starts her day early as she juggles her academics and her internship at De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde. “I wake up at 4 a.m. to prepare myself because I need to be at school by 7 a.m. Then I would do more than eight hours of work for my internship. I’m already used to it and that’s the training that I need to survive the service industry. What I love about being in this industry is I get to deal with different people. I learn from them. It’s very rewarding,” says Niña, who takes public transportation most of the time going to school. She admits that her daily commute opens her eyes to the realities outside her comfort zone.
“Commuting keeps me grounded, definitely. The kind of person that I am, I don’t really rely much on being comfortable. I learned that from my mom, Mabel. Even though we have a driver, if there’s a chance to commute, I take the LRT. As long as it works for me, I do it,” she reveals.
With the demands of Niña’s school activities and internship requirements, she is relieved to sometimes drop the tedious process of applying makeup and focus on highlighting her best features like her eyebrows. “Having perfectly shaped brows make one look more put together without all the fuss. I also make sure to put concealer to hide the dark circles under my eyes. The makeup product I love best is nude lipstick. It’s simple but I can wear it any day, whatever the occasion is.”
