Pacquiao campaigns for Binay in home province

- By JANVIC MATEO

ALABEL, Sarangani — Boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao campaigned for presidential aspirant Vice President Jejomar Binay before thousands of his supporters here in his home province yesterday afternoon.

“I can help our beloved Vice President by informing the public of his achievements,” Pacquiao said prior to the proclama- tion rally of local candidates at the provincial capitol.

The boxer is one of six official senatorial candidates of Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

In a press conference, Pacquiao noted Binay’s track record, particularly in helping poor Filipinos.

“I have known the Vice President for a long time. He is one of the most humble men that I know,” he added.

Pacquiao said he might also help other members of the UNA slate as he would attract more supporters in the succeeding campaign sorties, saying this would enable their candidates to deliver their message to more voters.

For the first time since Binay went on the campaign trail in February, Pacquiao joined the Vice President in his scheduled sorties yesterday.

The boxing icon, who just returned from his successful final bout against American Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas on April 10, last joined the UNA campaign during the party’s proclamation rally in Mandaluyong City last Feb. 9. – With Paolo Romero
