Tiu scores nat’l dragfest ‘double’

-

Muliti-titled Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing pulled a double title feat in the kickoff of the 2016 National Drag Racing Championship Southern Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit Drag Strip in Rosario recently.

Tiu dominated his favorite Quick 8 division and ruled the premiere M&H Pro crown to underscore his bid to regain the crown in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by M&H, Sparco and Aguila Auto Glass.

Jonathan Young provided a solid backup as he finished second in both classes to complete a double 1-2 finish for the JCT-Blanche Racing squad.

Tiu beat Jabber Bora Nassef in the opening round and prevailed over Anthony Sanchez in the semifinal to secure the first finals slot.

Young, on the other hand, turned back Zeb Mendoza and defeated Sherwin Joseph Berania in the semis to forge the title duel with Tiu.

In their final showdown, Tiu turned in a fast clocking of 10.342 seconds to capture the Quick 8 plum as Young suffered engine problems and settled for second in 25.022 seconds.

Berania finished third in 12.498 seconds, beating Anthony Sanchez in sudden death for the last podium slot.

In the M&H Pro class, only Tiu and Young qualified as some of the other top guns like Arvin Jay Millet of TEMZ failed to show up.

Tiu, with his Nissan R35, bagged the M&H Pro class plum over Young.
