Tiu gears up for national dragfest final leg

-

Jonathan Tiu sets out as the favorite coming off a pair of emphatic victories as he guns for the crown in the final leg of the National Drag Racing Championship Southern Series at Batangas Racing Circuit Drag Strip in Rosario, Batangas tomorrow.

Tiu dominated his pet Quick 8 class and the premier M&H Pro class recently, making the top JCT-Blanche Racing bet the overwhelming pick in the event with perennial rival Martin Manalo of Palanas Racing Team also out on a personal mission.

But contenders like Vanni Garcia of Vannitec and young sensation Arvin Millet of TEMZ will be out to foil Tiu’s bid for the grand slam in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by M&H, Sparco and Aguila Auto Glass.

Another victory will pave the way for Tiu’s grand comeback since this will be the first for his grand slam after winning the Northern Series crown and the 2016 Overall Drag Racing Driver of the Year honors.

“I thought no other title victory would get me excited. But this one looks quite interesting,” said Tiu.

Millet, meanwhile, is also in strong contention for the Expert title against Anthony Sanchez, Paul Alvaran, Sherwin Joseph Berania and Russel Mendoza.

Other fancied bets are Sherwin Esguerra in the Sportsman class and Terrenz Hormillosa in the Hotstreet division.
