YSTYLE SUPPORTS ATENEO ART AWARDS 2016
2016 Ateneo Art Awards call for nominations for the Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art and entries for the Purita Kalaw Ledesma Prize for Art Criticism.
Ateneo Art Gallery, YStyle and our partners are calling for nominations for the 2016 edition of the Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art and entries to the Purita Kalaw Ledesma Prize for Art Criticism. Work that has been exhibited between May 2, 2015 and May 1, 2016 can now be nominated for the 13th edition of the prestigious Fernando Zóbel prize to be given at the 2016 Ateneo Art Awards. YStyle invites you to visit http://www.ateneoartgallery.org and inquire into the nomination process.
Since 2004, the Ateneo Art Gallery and its partners have granted awards and opportunities to Filipino visual artists below the age of 36 so that they may further their practice and enrich the Philippine cultural landscape. Outstanding exhibited work is duly recognized through this prize that honors and commemorates Fernando Zóbel de Ayala (1924-1984), the founding benefactor of the Ateneo Art Gallery. In 2014, the Ateneo Art Awards began including a second category: The Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize for Art Criticism, thus honoring two pioneers who made their respective marks in Philippine art history.
For the Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art, three winners will be selected from a shortlist of 12 exhibitions/artworks. The winners are then invited to apply for international residency grants funded by the Ateneo Art Gallery and its partner institutions: La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre in Bendigo, Australia, Artesan Gallery in Singapore and Liverpool Hope University in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
The Purita Kalaw Ledesma Prize for Art Criticism (in partnership with the Kalaw-Ledesma foundation and in association with The Philippine STAR) aims to encourage local arts writers to foster critical public discussion about exhibitions and artworks in keeping with the mission and vision of the Ateneo Art Gallery to recognize artistic talent and push boundaries in contemporary art.
If you are a current or former member of the Ateneo Art Awards jury, a public gallery director, an independent or institutional curator, a professional visual artist who has participated in at least one solo or group exhibition in a public venue, an administrator, journalist, critic or educator who specializes in the fine arts and resides in the Philippines, then we look forward to receiving your nominations. Submissions may be posted to the Ateneo Art Gallery (Level 2, Rizal Library Special Collections Building, Ateneo de Manila University) or emailed to ateneoartgallery@ateneo.edu, no later than 5 p.m. on May 31, 2016.
