Single/Single reflects millennial sentiments, dilemmas and challenges

-

Combining the forces of both print and cable TV, The Philippine STAR and Cinema One continue to collaborate on the breakthrough romantic comedy mini-series, Single/Single, which is now on its second season of reaching out to millennials by tackling relevant issues such as handling finances, planning a career path, and achieving work-life balance.

With the creative team spearheaded by passionate, award-winning storytellers— Pepe Diokno as director, Bianca Balbuena as producer and Lilit Reyes as writer, Single/Single features characters that truly represent the millennial generation. These characters are brought to life by some of the finest actors in the country to date, making them more real and relatable. The main characters of Single/ Single are Joey and Joee, two complete strangers who were forced to share a condo unit for convenience.

Joey, played by Matteo Guidicelli, is a carefree young singer/composer who chose to leave his wealthy home to make it on his own and be independent. He moved to the condo owned by his mom, Bianca, played by veteran actress, Cherie Gil. Matteo describes his character as, “A very passionate guy but he wants to prove himself to everyone. He realized that he should be able to stand on his own and not rely on the wealth of his family. I think a lot of millennials can relate to wanting to be independent. They want to learn how to take care of themselves.”

Joee on the other hand, is an independent, young professional in the midst of establishing herself while trying to make ends meet. Shaina reveals that her character is “a bit conservative”. She is focused on herself and that’s not bad because she is still discovering who she is. She is career-driven, she wants to earn. Who can’t relate to that? “

Completing the Single/ Single millennial gang are Ranee and Benny, played by Cinema One Originals actress Anna Luna and theater actor Brian Sy.

Ranee is Joee’s bestfriend, a financial expert that works in an insurance company. She is also a career-oriented young woman who is very dedicated to helping her family. “Masyadong busy si Ranee!” shares Anna. “Sometimes to the point na

wala na siyang personal life because she wants to help her parents and other loved ones.”

Meanwhile, Benny, Joee’s gay friend is a hardworking young professional, perpetually looking for love. His flamboyant way of life often leads him to different kinds of adventures and misadventures that are interesting to watch. Brian relates, “I like portraying Benny because he is all heart. Through Benny, it’s like we’re teaching them not to judge other people based on their sexuality.”

These Single/ Single characters truly reflect the many faces of today’s millennials, including their sentiments, dilemmas and challenges. In season 1, these characters were thrown into all sorts of predicaments and experiences as they were all trying to figure out themselves, building their lives and finding love. Season 1 ended with a “bitin” factor as Joee and Joey decided to separate ways and put their romance on hold.

For season 2, Matteo sums up what can be expected “This time it will be about millennials making decisions, taking charge of their lives. In this season, we will find out how they will grow as individuals given the decisions and choices that they make.”

Don’t miss Single/Single Season 2 which premieres tonight at 10PM. Catch replays every Wednesday at 8:30 PM and Saturday at 9:00 PM. New episodes can also be accessed a week after airing on philstartv.com. The entire Single/Single Season 1 is likewise on the website.
