Script and Scenes: Dialogue with Lilit Reyes

-

Single/Single scriptwriter, a Palanca winner and an actor as well, Lilit Reyes shares his insight on the series’ new season: what to expect and where will the story take us.

What’s changed in Joey and Joee in Single/Single 2?

THEY have lived apart. They have their own worlds. One even has her own love life. They both have new jobs. But what might not have changed is, are they really happy? Without each other?

From where do you draw inspiration when writing the script? Are the scenes inspired by true events?

I wouldn’t like to brand it as true events. But true insights. It is not a particular person’s story. It is what one goes through, especially millennials, as they cope with life. And as they discover their place in the sun. But viewers will find truth in what the characters go through. And they will have fun as well, because it’s all wrapped still, as an entertainment package. What will be the theme for this new season?

Different themes. But all under the # HowToAdult. One episode deals with say for example, how do you see yourself 10 years from now. It’s fun imagining what Shaina as Joee could be in the future, and Matteo, they might see themselves differently. Another episode deals with mortality, a thing that spares no one. Death, because while you’re young, you won’t think it could happen to you. It’s about preparedness, and as life exists, make it matter. Yes, someone will die this season.

A show for millennials, why would Single/Single 2 be relevant to the younger generation?

Because it is about them, and was made for them.

How do you maintain the wit and humor in the script?

By being Pinoy, we find humor even in the most difficult situations. That’s how we cope. Wit? I don’t know where it comes from. It just comes out naturally while writing the script. And it fits, with the characters, their personalities, their economic status, their jobs. And our actors in real life are all witty. In varying degrees.

What can the audience expect in Single/Single 2?

I would rather not create expectations. I want them to discover and be surprised. And not pre-empt what they’ll be in for this season. All I know is, we all had fun. The viewers will experience that as well. At the very least.
